Tessereil Bits and Bobs

A little more about my project, now with more sense and less rambling.  This'll just help any reflection I do on development to actually be kinda coherent.

So, Tessereil's my hopefully-webcomic-to-be, as I mentioned last time.  It has an odd name that I'm really bipolar about - on one hand, I like it.  But I don't think the spelling would allow it to be pronounced the way I say it and I'm afraid people might not guess the spelling from that pronunciation, which could be trouble.  So it's mostly a working title.

It's a high fantasy story, is intended to be fairly long but not stretched-out, and has a lot of
worldbuilding-i-ness that affects the plot.  I think that summarises more or less any information that's needed to make sense of my pictures today.

First up, my story is largely nonhumans, but some of them are very human-like, like Lerra, below.  I'm really bad at drawing humans... I don't think it's a bad thing, because I'll keep at it until I'm happy with the style I'm using, but just please bare with me on this one.

Sketchy, unfinished turnaround of what is just concept stuff at the minute.  Also, my women always look really manly...

I also have a couple of attempts of doing skies with supernatural looks to them.  The first one used a lot of cloud brushes, the second one was just horrible abuse of filters in Photoshop.

Other than that, it's been seemingly endless sessions of boredly typing away, trying to iron out the backstory for the world, etc.  Oh, that reminds me - look here for some great advice from a woman called Limyaael, who did a series of rants about things that irritate her in books she read.  No one knows where she is now, but her rants are hosted here:

I can't get enough of them; there's a lot of things to think about when worldbuilding especially.

Found this Dragonball Z video; I think it's the opening for one of the games.  I just like it.  XD

  1. I'm leavin' a comments!

I dunno, I find the name easy to pronounce... it IS Tess-er-rail, or something like that, right? JUST SO I DON'T MAKE A COMPLETE TWAT OF MYSELF. More so than usual XD

I was reading those Limyaael's rants that you linked to and they have a section about titles. If you're unsure about keeping that name, maybe have a look at the entry and see what advice they have?

Bear in mind, Crumbs went through... about four or five name changes before I FINALLY settled for the one we all know and love so don't worry. It might just click just like that.

Lerra looks awesomeprettycool. I like her tail. Can't wait to see her coloured. And manly women are still women, damnit! I'm proof of that! *flexes non existent muscles*

    Arnie girl is frightening though.

Did I mention the backgrounds and skies you do are incredibly amazing? Because the backgrounds and skies you do are incredibly amazing. Did you create these in illustrator like Feathers of the Roc?

I will watch the video you linked later but as I am in danger of falling on my face and snoozing I think I better turn in. Damnit woman, my comment is a trickle of piss compared to the one you left me! D:

Keep being the awesome person you're being!

    1. Yeah, that's it. While I could rename it Tesserale or something to make its spelling more obvious, I kind of feel like it loses something if it's spelt like that. It just isn't quite right to me. XD But I'll keep plugging away at it and hopefully come up with something!

Aye, Crumbs is an awesome title. It's one of those easy, memorable ones and perfect for a webcomic. :D

Thank you, the concept art is a little aged now and I haven't updated her yet, but I know I want to sort of go for an unassuming, slight brunette type appearance for her. But like I said, my humans need serious work. XD

Arnie girl is composed almost entirely of the nightmares of small children.

Thank you! <3 No, I did those in Photoshop. The second one's just a combination of a couple layers of rough, splattery colouring and two filters layered over it a couple times... I think I used the chrome and accented edges filters.

It's not the size, it's what you do with it! *shot* Thanks Emma! <3

    2. As far as I can tell, if I'M able to pronounce it correctly then others definitely will. You're welcome to keep looking for other ideas obviously but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

You do very good with humans, actually! Stop being hard on yourself! DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO ahskjhs

      *shudders* Those poor children...

Man, that's awesome. I especially like the first one, all of the colours just go so well together. The wisps in the second one are pretty as well :D

Pfff IT'S FUNNY COS IT'S LIKE SEX LOL

      Anytime! <3

    3. Whisps are pretty! I agree with Emma on that one. They are pink and purple with brilliant transitions from one corner to the next.

You're working with non human characters right, so maybe if they don't look like humans with a tail - maybe that is a good thing? Play with proportions a bit I think?

    4. Hey Hen! Nice to hear from you! :)

Thank you, I'm glad to like it. And I will try fiddling with those, thank you. The goal is to have them human-like but be able to tell easily that they're not actually human. :)
